Timed Mental-Math & Sequences Interview Questions
Timed mental-math and sequences assessments are pure speed filters: no-calculator arithmetic and number-pattern recognition against a hard clock, usually as the first stage of a trading process.
The early stages reward raw speed and accuracy: fast arithmetic across integers, fractions, decimals, and percentages, plus number-sequence pattern recognition. Clear those and the later rounds add probability, expected value, and market-making questions where you quote prices and manage risk.
Formats of this kind are commonly reported to run dozens of questions in a handful of minutes, often with a penalty for wrong answers - on the order of a few seconds per question. Specific counts and timings are reported rather than published, and they shift year to year, so train the skill rather than a particular number. Arithmetic and pattern recognition need to be automatic before the judgement questions begin.

- What does a timed mental-math assessment involve?
- No-calculator arithmetic under severe time pressure, commonly reported as dozens of questions in a handful of minutes, often paired with a number-sequences test. The maths is basic; the pace is what filters candidates.
- How do I prepare for it?
- Practise arithmetic and sequence-spotting under a timer until they are automatic. NeetQuant's Mental Math Blitz, Sequences, and Number Box simulators are built for exactly this.
- What comes after the speed test?
- Probability and market-making or trading-judgement questions. Once your arithmetic is fast, expected value and quoting intuition are the next areas to drill.
